Modifications of Scheie's operation.

چکیده
In recent years Scheie's operation (Scheie, I958) has been frequently performed because of its relatively simple technique. The results have been mainly satisfactory in bringing the intraocular pressure to normal in cases of glaucoma. Nevertheless filtration is not always well maintained, for various reasons: (i) Excessive scarring of the conjunctival flap causing closure of the limbal fistula. (2) Exuberant Tenon's capsule, especially in young patients. (3) Blockage of the fistula from within by tags of iris, ciliary processes, vitreous, and occasionally the lens. (4) Re-operations in which the fistula is more prone to closure.

Trabeculectomy versus Scheie's operation: a comparative retrospective study in open-angle glaucoma in Kenyans.
A comparative retrospective study was performed on 39 patients with open-angle glaucoma in whom the right eye was subjected to Scheie's operation, the left to trabeculectomy. Trabeculectomy without the use of additional therapy or reoperation brought the intraocular pressure to under 22 mmHg in 80% of the cases compared with 74% treated by Scheie's operation. Reduction of visual acuity postoper...

Scheie's operation of sclerectomy-cautery with peripheral iridectomy, first described in 1958 and first performed in Oxford in i962, is now the drainage operation most frequently used in the Oxford Eye Hospital. Thorpe (I955) and Scheie (I962) suggested that Diamox (acetazolamide) may adversely affect the outcome ofdrainage operations, reducing the size of the resultant drainage bleb. Agarwal a...

A 5-year-old Caucasian girl with known Hurler-Scheie's syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis) developed a right Brown's syndrome while under orthoptic review. There was no evidence of trauma or inflammation of the superior oblique tendon, trochlea, or surrounding tissues. The Brown's syndrome in this case may be due to shortening of the superior oblique tendon, associated with the shortening of long ...

A case study is presented in which two modifications of activated sludge treatment of complex chemical wastewater are experimentally compared: a combination of common activated sludge with powdered activated carbon treatment (PACT), and bioaugmentation of activated sludge treatment (BAST). Industrial wastewater of Pars Oil Refinery that was passed through an oil recovery stage was used to inve...
